Why Proper Hydration Is Important
Water is considered the most important nutrient and physiological parameter that governs delivery of key nutrients to the body. It accounts for aproximately 60% of body weight in cats. It serves in many body functions including transport of nutrients, lubricatcation, metabolic functions, thermoregualation, and elimination of waste products through the kidneys.
Water Intake Issues With Cats:
- Cats are adapted to a dry environment
- A single lap of water provides 3/100 of a teaspoon
- Cats have a reduced thirst drive and are able to survive on less water compared to dogs
- Cats are sensitive to the presentation and taste of water, preferring fresh moving water
- Their eyes are designed for distance and thus struggle when up close to a water bowl
Feeding and Administration:
Shake well before feeding. Feed one pouch per 5 lbs of body weight per day to adult cats. Cat must consume at least 2 oz/5 lbs of bodyweight daily for benefit.
