Fluconazole 100mg Tablets
Antifungal
Fluconazole is an antifungal drug effective against
fungus and yeast. It is typically used for skin infections, fungus in the nail
beds, and more intense fungal infections including Cryptococcosis, Blastomycosis
and Histoplasmosis. It is related to Ketoconazole, but is able to more
effectively cross the brain-blood barrier, making it more successful in treating
fungal infections of the central nervous system. Fluconazole is also effective
against ringworm [dermatophytosis], but is typically reserved for more serious
infections. Used also in the treatment of Malassezia dermatitis.
Fluconazole works by inhibiting production of the fungal
cell wall. This causes the fungus to be structurally inadequate so that it leaks
and dies.
Fluconazole has fewer side effects than most other
antifungals. There has been no contraindications, precautions and drug
interactions reported.
Caution: Do not give Fluconazole
to pregnant pets. Use caution when administering this drug to diabetic
pets, lactating pets or those with kidney or liver disease.
Fluconazole may react with the following drugs: Amphotericin B, Cyclosporine, Hydrochlorothisazide and Rifampin.
Fluconazole has been found to be very safe in pets, but
not extensively researched. These side effects have been observed in humans on
this drug: allergic reaction (labored breathing, hives), vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, loss of appetite, dark urine or jaundice, pale mucous membranes.
Please contact your veterinarian and stop use of
Fluconazole if any of these reactions occur.
